Method

Analysed by gas chromatography with flame ionisation detection (GC-FID) — the reference method for fatty acid analysis — using the original Omega-3 Index methodology of Harris & von Schacky (2004), in an accredited laboratory.

How is Plus Ratios different from the Basic test?

It includes everything in the Omega-3 Index Basic, plus your omega-6 : omega-3 ratio, AA : EPA ratio and Trans Fat Index, from the same finger-prick.

How much does it cost?

When should I retest?

Red blood cell omega-3 levels take around 3–4 months to reflect a change in diet or supplements, so a retest after about 3 months shows your progress.

How does the at-home Omega-3 Index test work?

Order online and we post the kit to your door. Do one finger-prick onto the collection card, then post it back in the prepaid return envelope. Results are ready 3–5 business days after your sample reaches the laboratory.

Do I need a referral or a nurse?

No. You can order directly, with no referral and no nurse appointment. The finger-prick takes a couple of minutes at home.
