What to compare

1. What's measured

The Omega-3 Index is EPA + DHA as a percentage of red blood cell fatty acids. The commonly cited target range is 8–12%. Some tests add ratios such as omega-6:omega-3 and AA:EPA, or a full fatty acid profile. If you want ratios, compare like with like: our Plus Ratios (£69.95) and Complete (£79.95) against Medichecks' £99 omega-3 and 6 test.

2. Time to results

Stated turnaround runs from 3–5 days (us, Trupoint) to 2–4 weeks (kits sold through resellers) and about 16 working days (Medichecks).

3. Lab method

We analyse samples by GC-FID, the method used to define the Omega-3 Index (Harris & von Schacky, 2004), in an accredited laboratory. Check each provider's site for its own method and accreditation.

4. Total cost, including delivery

We include free UK delivery both ways: the kit comes to you and the prepaid return envelope is included. We deliver within the UK only. Some providers charge for postage or faster delivery, so check the total at checkout.

5. Retesting

Red blood cells take around 3–4 months to reflect a change in diet or supplements, so a retest after about 3 months shows your progress. A twin pack lowers the price per test if you plan to retest.

Which should you choose?

If the lowest price matters most and you can wait 2–4 weeks, the kits sold through resellers are the cheapest we found. If you want results in 3–5 days, our Basic kit is £44.96 delivered with OMEGA10. If you want ratios or a full profile, compare the Plus and Complete tiers rather than the basic Index.
