Analysed by gas chromatography with flame ionisation detection (GC-FID) using the original Omega-3 Index methodology of Harris & von Schacky (2004), in an accredited laboratory.

You can test before or during pregnancy. The report uses a pregnancy-tuned reference scale for DHA.
